Here's one as done in 1968 by R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders.  This is a cover of a 1931 recording by Harry Roy's Bat Club Boys, so obviously it HAS to be clean, right??  It's called "My Girl's Pussy". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grrp6mxrY5Y

I play online with a team for the "World's Largest Radio Trivia Contest" every spring.  The contest is the year's major fund-raiser for WWSP, the Univ. of Wisconsin - Stevens Point's campus radio station. For the 54-hour duration of this contest, the station jettisons its usual college-rock format and plays old 45's between trivia questions, including many, many, many silly-songs from the past.  While I remember many of these on this page from the past, I've learned of many more of them (and many others) from participating in this contest.

Hi, sherryberry.  I'm not sure "Mule Skinner Blues" qualifies as a novelty record.  You may know The Fendermen's 1960 version, but it was written and first recorded by Jimmy Rodgers in 1930.  The "blues yodel" song has been recorded by many artists since then.

John Cameron Swayze was a popular newscaster (and game show panelist) of the time...who also did the iconic Timex watch commercials with the now famous line.."Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"...he wouldda been pasrodied in the song...as John Cameron Cameron...those of us who gre up in that era.."Got it"...

You mean "John Cameron Cameron" ;-) That was "Flying Saucers, Pt 1 and 2" by Buchanan and Goodman. It's on YouTube. My fav was "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus.

Shadddap-a-You Face by Joe Dolce, The Martian Hop by The Ran-Dells and Seven Little Girls by Paul Evans.  I still have these and most of the rest on vinyl, even Daddy Dewdrop's LP.  My daughter's favorite cut from that one is The March of the White Corpuscles.  It actually helped me through a Health quiz back in high school.

Hi, Chuck.  I hadn't heard "Shaddap You Face" before, but you can find it on YouTube.  It was recorded by Joe Dolce in 1980, which puts it somewhat beyond the scope of the BBeM site.

I owned only a dozen or so 45s as a kid. Almost all of them were novelty records, and most (if not all) of them are in this gallery.

Dickie Goodman's "Ben Crazy" used short clips from several records. If I'm not mistaken, that Walter Brennan record was one of them.

Two that immediately come to my mind are The Martian Hop by the Ran-Dells and, maybe not so much a one hit wonder, but Old Rivers sung, or actually spoken by, Walter Brennan.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida...and not only that classic mystery "lyric", but also, way too long...another example of "penny wise, pound foolish" Studio time, then, not that hard to cover! For the time spent on that, they could have done a retake!...of course it was supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden" Chick in the booth here! Still, I'm kinda fond of it that way!
